Practical TOGAF Training
About TOGAF Certification
TOGAF is a registered trademark of The Open Group.
The Open Group Architecture Forum and Certification Authority manage the TOGAF Architecture Framework, Method, Certification and Accreditation procedures. The most recent standard and level of accreditation is TOGAF 9. TOGAF 8 is still supported and is still widely used in industry.
TOGAF 8 certification could be obtained either by writing and passing prescribed examinations or by successful attendance on an accredited TOGAF 8 training course presented by a registered TOGAF training organization. For TOGAF 9, all candidates must write and pass the relevant examinations set by the Open Group to become certified, regardless of having attended an accredited training course.
TOGAF 8 had only one level of certification. TOGAF 9 has two, viz. Foundation (following success in the Part 1 exam) and Certified (following success in the Part 2 exam). It is possible to move from TOGAF 8 certified status to TOGAF 9 certified by passing the TOGAF 8 to TOGAF 9 Advanced Bridge exam.
TOGAF examinations are set by the Open Group and are administered online. They can be taken at any Prometric testing centre of which there are many located in most major centers world wide. We will provide details of local centers to course attendees.
The TOGAF 9 Part 1 exam requires a knowledge of the TOGAF 9 "body of knowledge" but does not imply that the candidate has EA experience or could apply the techniques at a professional level yet. The Foundation exam can be followed by writing of the Part 2 (Certification) exam. This is a tougher exam which requires some EA background and does imply that the successful candidate would be able to apply the TOGAF 9 concepts in a real world project or context. Success in this exam entitles the candidate to registration by the Open Group as a certified TOGAF 9 Architect. The Part 2 exam typically requires some practical experience of EA work.
There is a combined Part 1 and Part 2 exam which covers the requirements for the foundation and certification levels in one sitting. Candidates are not advised to attempt this unless they have prior EA experience and are able to apply the TOGAF concepts in case study scenarios. It can be written at completion of the the Practical TOGAF 9 course, or at any time thereafter. Promis typically advises a study period of between 4-6 weeks to allow candidates time to read all the TOGAF material and to properly prepare for the exam using reference and study materials provided, including sample exams.
Our TOGAF Courses
Promis currently offers two accredited TOGAF courses.
- Practical TOGAF 9 vsn 1.2 - The more recent course is a full TOGAF 9 course over five days, preparing candidates for both Part 1 and Part 2 certification examinations (Foundation and Certified). This course is offered on a public training schedule in a variety of locations, including: UK, Germany, Switzerland, Netherlands, Johannesburg, Cape Town, Singapore, Kuala Lumpur. It is also available on an in-house basis. If only Foundation level coverage is required, then a shortened version can be offered over three days (in-house only). The fee for this course includes a voucher covering the cost of the combined Part 1 and 2 exam
- Practical TOGAF - The older course covers both TOGAF 8 and TOGAF 9 content in five days. It is an accredited TOGAF 8 course, which means that delegates who attend regularly and perform to the required level on the course can be immediately certified as TOGAF 8 architects with the Open Group. The course also prepares students to take the TOGAF 9 certification examinations via Prometric online testing centres after some self study with provided materials. The fee for the course includes the TOGAF 8 certification with the Open Group and a voucher for the cost of the TOGAF 8 to TOGAF 9 Advanced Bridge exam. Certification for TOGAF 9 can be achieved as follows:
- Candidates can achieve TOGAF 9 Certified Architect level by waiting for their TOGAF 8 certification (allow three to four weeks) and then writing and passing the TOGAF 8 to 9 Advanced Bridge Exam.
- Candidates who only want to achieve TOGAF 9 Foundation level can write the TOGAF 9 Part 1 (Foundation) exam. Successful completion will allow them to be TOGAF 9 Foundation certified.
Prometric makes a charge for each examination written. Please consult their website for applicable charges in each country. It is also possible to book the examination time online.

-
Unique organisational expertise and instructors We have been engaged in delivering Enterprise Architecture work as consultants and practitioners since 1989. Frameworks used include Zachman, TOGAF, FEAF, Gartner, Meta, Inspired, PEAF and others. We have developed unique EA capabilities, techniques and expertise. We have integrated TOGAF with other methods, including Archimate, and produced integrated meta models to provide TOGAF and Archimate capabilities within EA toolsets. We understand EA in depth, having been involved in scores of projects locally and internationally across a wide range of industries including finance, assurance, retail, telecommunications, services, healthcare, government, education, manufacturing, software, energy and media. We have developed TOGAF certified training, are registered as a TOGAF services provider and have created certified support in EA tools. Typical instructor will have over twelve years EA experience
-
Case Study The comprehensive case study is based on three real world EA projects and provides delegates with a much richer appreciation for the scope and subtlety of issues in real EA projects than typical class exercises
-
Hands On Delegates will do individual and team assignments to apply knowledge and experience techniques first hand. This enhances learning and provides delegates with more confidence and a faster start when returning to their organisations
-
Longer Course Some courses are offered over four or even three days. We do not believe that these provide sufficient time for proper coverage of all the topics required to understand TOGAF fully or to prepare for certification properly
